Ilapak introduces vacuum packing solution for food service salad bags

PKBR Staff Writer Published 02 February 2018

Ilapak has introduced a new vacuum packing solution designed to reduce the cost of the food service salad bags.

Claimed to be the first-of-its-kind, the new vacuum packing solution offers considerable cost as well as shelf-life advantages for bulk salad bags.

The packaging solution, which uses Vegatronic vertical bagging technology, allows major fast food operators to pack 1-2kg bags of iceberg and lettuce.

Ilapak VFFS division product manager Andrea Boccolini said that the removing air from the bag allows for extended shelf life of the product inside for 7-10 days without the need for Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP).

Boccolini added: “There are also considerable cost savings for customers as they don’t have the expense of gas and the reduced volume bags cost less to store, handle and transport.”

Ilapak said that the new vacuum salad bag system will be available as an option on the company’s Vegatronic series baggers which include the intermittent Vegatronic 2300 and Vegatronic 2000 OF (Open Frame) models.

Boccolini noted: “It’s not just about providing technical solutions either - any system we engineer for the produce industry has to combine hygienic design, low cost of ownership and high performance, or it just won’t cut it commercially.”

Recently, Ilapak has launched a new linear weigher designed for ease of cleaning and robustness when handling fresh fruit and veg applications.

The weigher features quick-change vibratory channels and distribution plates that enable for tool-less changeovers between various types and sizes of products.
